firewall and put Online Armor back awhile and see if that makes a

threads about this or closely-related (DNS resolving) issues on the Be

Without analysing further, it's safe to say it's supposedly filtering spam
isn't it. Like a really, really lazy approach to rule making. Does this
reflect the priority almost bordering on contempt they have for the legacy
groups? Or are the still supported system groups also so badly filtered?

Put simply, those involved at MS simply don't give a damn about those
wishing to use nntp. Support's long since been flushed down the tubes. All
that MS now cares about is Bing Bong, Windows Dead and how many
boxes/licenses they can flog. End users no longer feature in their plans.

As for rule making, those involved know little about rule making and
expressions and when I last had dealings with them were simply filtering on
specific character strings which is why the spammers found it so easy to
return time and time again although I have to admit that MS do seem to have
managed to reduce spam nowadays to a trickle.

You really are completely clueless aren't you?

Posting to the MS nntp servers is necessary for two reasons:
a) To verify that the MS servers are incorrectly filtering valid posts and
to get that fixed if possible,
b) To ensure that those who use the MS servers are able to read all messages
posted to this NG.

May I suggest you go back to playing with your dolls and in future only post
here if and when you have something useful to contribute.

You're the clueless one, and I'll explain why.
Post by Mike M
a) To verify that the MS servers are incorrectly filtering
valid posts and to get that fixed if possible,
You have the impression that the only place or the only server where you
can read and post messages to this newsgroun is hosted by Microsoft, and
that you must spend your energy to do what it takes so that server
operates correctly.

The reality is that microsoft operates their NNTP server on an absentee
basis. It has never been shown (not at least during the past 10 years)
that any resonsible person can be reached at micrsofot who administers
their server or who is in a position to change, improve, fix how they
operate.

And microsoft is, by far, NOT the only server where you can read and
post messages to this newsgroup. Microsoft does not control these
microsoft.* newsgroups, or act in any way as a central organizer,
aggregator, or maintainer of them. I am making this post via the
aioe.org server, and it is one of many usener PEERS, just as microsoft's
servers are also PEERS. This post that I'm making will be transmitted
between usenet peering servers, and will eventually reach microsoft's
server where it will be accepted and made available to those that read
messages directly from the microsoft server.

If the rules on the microsoft server are faulty or applied incorrectly,
such that the MS server rejects my post, that rejection has no effect on
whether or not other servers around the world will carry my post (they
almost certainly will, with no regard or knowledge if microsoft rejected
it).
Post by Mike M
b) To ensure that those who use the MS servers are able to read
all messages posted to this NG.
It is more pragmatic and practical to simply change your news server
rather than make a futile attempt to engage some anonymous microsoft
sys-admin and get them to realize there is a problem with how they are
administering their servers and get them to fix it.
Post by Mike M
May I suggest you go back to playing with your dolls and in

You may suggest it, but others reading this will realize that I am
making a logical and effective recommendation as to how to handle this
problem that you and others are experiencing, and that your name calling
and child-like language reflects a juvenille intellect and inability to
discuss technical issues like an adult.

I never said that I knew *how* microsoft manages their news servers -
only that they do it poorly - if at all.

A significant amount of spam that is posted to the microsoft.public
hierarchy comes directly via microsoft's servers, because the microsoft
sys-admins have not implimented simple filters that detect when the same
user is posting dozens or hundreds of messages- one to each and every
microsoft.public newsgroup over a short period of time.

Please post a URL showing that a real microsoft sys-admin responded in a

How exactly did I demonstrate that I "know little"?

I said that there is a history of inattention and inactivity when it
comes to how microsoft sys-admins administer and operate their server.
You can prove me wrong by posting evidence to the contrary.

I said that Microsoft (or their servers) plays no role in the operation
of these newsgroups on a world-wide basis. You have said nothing
specifically about that statement, so either you are unsure of that fact
or you agree with it.

I am contributing to solving this problem by offering an effective and
simple solution (use a different NNTP server). You offer no viable
solution.

Just yesterday I was thinking - as I was walking to town doing up my coat
and putting my wooly hat on, then undoing and removing half a minute later,
then putting covering up again then uncovering again because when it isn't
showering it is too warm for all that gear - that it really is spring at
last! Then today they were predicting snow on the higher peaks and briefly
it looked like it was snowing here (then I saw that it was more like hail or
sleet bouncing off the gardener's head). I just finished the last of the
fuel and do not plan on getting more before autumn no matter what happens
next!

BTW I've now determined two or three very simple and innocuous English

do it but on this o c c a s i o n I have done so with some
pleasure. :-)
BTW I've now determined two or three very simple and innocuous English
language character strings that when posted to the MS nntp servers
result in the post being deleted. Others such strings obviously
exist but these are three strings that can and do appear in normal
polite text.

Ha! ha! ...go play with his dolls! Priceless! You haven't lost your
edge Mike, give them trolls more of those well deserved gems!
My first reply was deleted from the MS servers but did propagate to
UseNet. I've reported it below and double spaced the offensive word that
caused it to be deleted.
Thanks JJ,
It's very rare for me to feel the need to Plonk someone and actually do it
but on this o c c a s i o n I have done so with some pleasure. :-)

Yes, some *very* polite posters report that for reasons unknown some of
their posts seem to be filtered. MS might have gone a bit overboard on
the filter... yet you have to wonder why they can't stop a handful of
polluting trolls from ruining the Vista groups... go figure.

Oh, was I plonked? I didn't notice.

Maybe that's because only old pharts do plonking.

What's the matter?

Is the nntp server that you use run by morons and idiots?
I have done so with some pleasure. :-)
Plonking gives you pleasure?

Here. I plonk you. Did that feel good?

Because the Microsoft usenet servers are run by monkeys.
yet you have to wonder why they can't stop a handful of

Because Microsoft doesn't give a rat's ass about their usenet servers.

That's why they have no Windows 7 newsgroups.

They are removing groups from their server, and probably in a year they
will remove all win-9x/me groups, leaving you people out in the cold
because you're too stubborn to use a real NNTP server.
