Have an old emachine running Me. Was unused for several years. Need it now
and it is painfully slow. Very slow selecting and loading even the start
button routine. Even slower on the web.

Any faster in Safe Mode?

How to boot into Safe Mode? Press and hold the Shift key or Ctrl key (or
the F8 key) during power-up sequence). That should eliminate some hardware
drivers, etc.

Checked for viruses or malware?

Mart

Since the machine was idle for several (?) years, there's a good chance the
battery is starting to fail and a replacement may be in order,
but only if Mart's suggestions didn't produce any positive results.

Harry.
