I have a friend that deleted some files (that she shouldn't have) and of
course, windows ME will not start. It says it cannot find Explorer.exe. Is
there a way to access the restore feature outside of the windows
environment.

Help!
Thanks.

You boot using the ME Safety Boot floppy you made when ME was installed and
at the DOS Prompt: A:\> scanreg /restore

As that is for the Registry I don't know if it will 'fix' the problem but it
can't hurt to try.

Also, if someone else is running ME you could copy the explorer.exe file to
a floppy and copy it to her system.

Try this...
http://support.microsoft.com/?scid=279736

Good Luck - but without details on exactly which files were deleted (it
doesn't necessarily mean that explorer.exe doesn't exist), there's not a lot
more we can do...

let us know how you get on.

Thanks to you both.
Noel, I read MS's article and I know that I could do it, but I'm sure my
friend would have problems.

Gerry ... it's worth a try - if it's do-able outside of windows.

I might get my friend to hold off until this Sunday as that's when I'll have
time to visit and work on her pc.

Thanks again. Diana
